Award-winning Puppet Theatre Ljubljana
The plays of the Puppet Theatre Ljubljana have received as many as 12 awards at festivals held in September.
At the 8th Biennial Festival of Puppetry Artists of Slovenia in Maribor, with the best Slovenian puppet plays on its programme during the last two seasons, the awards went to: the actresses Polonca Kores and Asja Kahrimanović for acting and animation in the play Duck, Death and the Tulip (Račka, Smrt in tulipan), the composer Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar for the music in Duck, Death and the Tulip and Pinocchio (Ostržek), and Federica Ferrari for the visual concept in the play Duck, Death and the Tulip. Miha Arh received a special award at the discretion of the jury for animation in the play Pinocchio.
At the 48th International Puppet Theatre Festival PIF in Zagreb the highest award of the festival – the grand prix – went to the play Duck, Death and the Tulip, Fabrizzio Montecchi received the prize for light design, Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar for music, and Polonca Kores and Asja Kahrimanović for animation in the same play. At 26th Pippi’s Festival, which concluded a few days ago, the golden award went to the drama Emil and the Detectives (Emil in detektivi) directed by Ajda Valcl, based on the famous detective story written by Erich Kästner.
At the International Puppet Theatre for Adults Festival in Stara Zagora in Bulgaria Leonard Evers received the best music award for the play Krabat, co-produced by the Puppet Theatre Ljubljana, the art association Umetniško društvo Konj, Ulrike Quade Company (NL) and Oorkaan (NL).
