Ljubljana among most sustainable global destinations for the third time already
On World Tourism Day the list of most sustainable destinations in the world chosen in the Global TOP 100 Sustainable Destinations competition was unveiled in the Portuguese city of Cascais. Ljubljana made it on the list for the third time already and is thus standing out among the winning destinations as well as globally.
There were 155 destinations from 57 countries in the run to be placed on the prestigious list. This year Ljubljana made it on the list for the third time already (the first time in 2014 and last year for the second time when the Slovenian capital hosted the two-day Global Green Destinations Day conference). The main reason for Ljubljana’s placement this year was the continuous development of tourism in a sustainable manner and the golden certificate awarded in the Slovenia Green assessment scheme.
The selection assessment of most sustainable destinations is a joint initiative of international organisations Travelmole’s VISION on Sustainable Tourism, Destination Stewardship Center, Asian Ecotourism Network, Sustainable Travel International, QualityCoast and Linking Tourism & Conservation (LT&C). It is carried out by a jury made up of over 60 internationally renowned experts in the field of sustainable development.
