For the sixth consecutive year Ljubljana has received the title Planet Earth Friendly Municipality.

The competition Planet Earth Friendly Municipality is organised by the Planet Earth Society in cooperation with experts from the Agriculture Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, the National Institute of Public Health, the Slovenia Forest Service, the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation, the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, the ZRMK Building and the Civil Engineering Institute, the Institute for Safe Play, the ERUDIO School of Sustainable Tourism, the Morigenos Society, the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute and the WCYCLE Institute.

The aim of the competition is to bring together local communities and professions raising questions and offering answers. The manifold cooperation allows municipalities to analyse the situation in the fields the competition explores and at the same time significantly contributes to the formation of an overview how local communities adjust to change in the ecological and economical area.

Again this year Ljubljana was triumphant in the urban municipality category with the justification stating, among other things, that this year’s race for the title was especially close and so the title Planet Earth Friendly Municipality is so much more deserved.
