In May 2011, the City of Ljubljana launched in public-private partnership with the company Europlakat a bicycle rental or sharing system known primarily under the name BicikeLJ. The first hour of use is free-of-charge which contributed to the popularity of the system and consequentially to the higher share of cycling. The bicycles in the system can be rented by registering the multipurpose city card Urbana.
