19th Ljubljana marathon
On 25 and 26 October 2014 "the Volkswagen 19th Ljubljana marathon" took place in Ljubljana with more than 22,500 participants.
In the past 19 years the Ljubljana marathon has become the biggest annual international sporting event in Ljubljana. This year's event introduced a new route for the 42 km marathon which now for the first time lies in one circle (in the past years the runners ran twice around the same 21 km long circle).
On Saturday, 25 October 2014, the "Lumpi" runs for preschool children were organised, as well as promotional school runs, the school marathon for students and the FUN run.
On Sunday, 26 October 2014, the 10 km run, half marathon, and marathon took place.
The first to cross the finishing line of the 42 km Volkswagen 19th Ljubljana marathon was Ishimael Bushendich from Kenya with a time of 2:08:25. Among women the winner was Janet Rono also from Kenya who finished with a time of 2:29:16.
