On 24 October 2021, after a one-year break, the 25th Volkswagen Ljubljana Marathon took place.

In the main trial, the winners were Kenyans Ernest Kibet Tarus with his running time of 2:22:39 and Kwamboka Momanyi Grace with the time 2:38:10.

More than 4,400 runners from over 40 countries ran the marathon.
