Cities for air

On 27 June 2016, Mayor Zoran Janković took part in the first Cities and Metropolises International Conference Cities for Air in Paris organised at the initiative of the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo with the support of the C40 Network (Cities Climate Leadership Network).

Mayor Zoran Janković participated in a round table on the topic »Cities’ actions: attempts and outcomes« where he presented sustainable measures and projects which fundamentally changed the image of Ljubljana and increased the quality of life in our city.
Conference participants were impressed by measures improving the air quality which we have implemented in Ljubljana in the past decade, and especially the closing of the city centre to motor traffic received a lot of attention. Many participants pointed Ljubljana out as a best practice case which should serve as a role model to big cities, as well.
A press conference with the mayors of Paris, Ljubljana and Athens followed. The pedestrian zone in Ljubljana made a special impression on the journalists.

Within the framework of the conference the Global Air Pollution Observatory (GUAPO) was established in cooperation with the World Health Organisation with the primary purpose of exchanging knowledge on air pollution and its effects. One of the aims of the observatory is to define, monitor and promote progress of bigger global cities in pollution monitoring in cities and its effects on health.
