Conference of the European Forum for Primary Care

The Community Health Centre Ljubljana organized a European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC) conference titled Sustainability in Primary Care: from Awareness to Action in Center Rog.

Various current topics were in the foreground, such as e-health, artificial intelligence, antibiotic prescribing, »social prescribing« as a possibility to reduce drug prescribing, as well as limited access to health services.

Over 240 experts at the conference sought solutions to various current challenges that public health care is presently facing – from the flight of personnel from public health care to the reduction of differences between the population within and between countries. President of the European Forum for Primary Care, Prof. Dr. Maria van den Muijsenbergh considers the Slovenian emphasis on promoting a healthy lifestyle as an example of good practice, for instance, in health centres, this is provided in Health Promotion Centres.

At the EFPC conference, the Community Health Centre Ljubljana presented and used, among other things, an innovative training method with simulations, which proved to be highly effective in improving the learning outcomes and skills of the participants. This method allows participants to gain experience through simulations in a controlled environment, which increases their readiness to solve real-life challenges. Particular emphasis was placed on the basic level of medical care, used to treat as much as 80% of the population. For this reason, it is crucial that health professionals regularly renew their knowledge and skills, as this is how they ensure quality patient care. Simulations enable continuous improvement, as participants can learn through practical examples and simultaneously recognize potential shortcomings in their practice. The method of training with simulations has become the gold standard in the Community Health Centre Ljubljana, as it enables safe learning from mistakes while strengthening critical thinking and teamwork. Combined with modern technological solutions such as virtual and augmented reality, this method can significantly improve the quality of medical care and contribute to the sustainable development of health systems.
