Culture Development Strategy in the City of Ljubljana

The City of Ljubljana has published the Draft Strategy for Cultural Development in the City of Ljubljana for the period 2016-2019 and opened a public discussion, closing on 30 January 2016.

The Strategy for Cultural Development in the City of Ljubljana 2016-2019 is the third strategic planning document setting the guidelines of the City of Ljubljana in the area of culture. The results achieved in the previous eight years have shaped Ljubljana into a city of high cultural standard and diverse cultural creativity comparable to other European capitals. The cultural life is remarkably rich and varied: from the finest artistic production to quality services in other cultural fields, such as library services and cultural heritage protection.

The formation of strategic goals and priorities for the strategic period 2016-2019 is based on the results achieved in the two implemented strategic documents which are now built upon with the further expansion of the cultural institutions network and the attainment of ambitious program goals, such as wining the title European Capital of Culture 2025 and the recently awarded title UNESCO City of Literature. Both titles can fortify Ljubljana’s position on European and global cultural maps.

The new strategic document which will have a great impact on the cultural image of Ljubljana is ambitious, but feasible. Either with program goals or investment projects, the Strategy for Cultural Development in the City of Ljubljana 2016-2019 is a response to the development challenges which will bring about even better quality and accessibility of cultural goods and services in the area of the City of Ljubljana.
