Discover ljubljana on bicycle!

The Discover Ljubljana on Bicycle! photography exhibition in on display until 20 November 2014 at the Krakovski Nasip embankment.

The photographs portray cycling glimpses of life by the new, Riverside cycling path in Ljubljana.

A bicycle is always by our side – at every age and in every situation life brings. It remains the most practical transport vehicle, while it seems to blend in with the urban environment only to become its part as indispensable aesthetic element.

The Waterside cycling path is one of the 4 new thematic cycling paths in Ljubljana. It runs along the Ljubljanica River, intertwining the urban and natural environment only to offer you the company of the River rather than the flow of vehicles. The path runs from the Fužine Castle, through the Ljubljanica River embankments, the Štepanjsko Naselje and Kodeljevo districts, the heart of the city (Petkovškovo Nabrežje – Prešernov Trg – Kongresni Trg – Novi Trg) to the Špica embankment in Prule.

The exhibition at the Krakovski Nasip embankment is part of awareness campaigns to promote cycling and the new Waterside cycling path, which was opened in this September. Since its opening the ZaMestoPoDveh society has carried out several promotional campaigns, one of them being the free-of-charge bicycle repair shops. One of those shops will be organised within the exhibition opening on Wednesday, 5 November, between 1 and 4 p.m. at the Hradecki Bridge.

There has been an increase in the number of cyclists on the path. The ZaMestoPoDveh society has conducted four measurements of number of cyclists since the opening at four different locations. The measurements took place before and after the promotional campaigns. The results show the number of cyclists on the two bridges in Štepanjsko Naselje district has increased by 59 % or 13 %, and the Materinski Most bridge by 16 %.

Welcome to viewing: a promotional video and the Waterside cycling path Facebook page.

The "Discover Ljubljana on Bicycle!" is organised by the ZaMestoPoDveh society with the financial means of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme, and supported by the "Sustainable Mobility in Cities" - Do The Right Mix campaign by the European Commission.
