E'ko dobro

23 September is the day of organic agriculture in the EU, we marked this day in Ljubljana with the event »E'ko dobro – dan ekološkega kmetijstva«, EU Organic Day, held at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Organic agriculture is the foundation of sustainable development, as it reduces negative impacts on the environment while maintaining and improving the quality of soil, water and air. In addition, it promotes biodiversity and concern for animal welfare.

Eco day at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre

A varied program was carried out at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre throughout the day, around 20 organic farms presented their activities, and visitors could test their knowledge of organic farming and ways of reducing waste. As part of the event, the first eco market was also held, where the organizers connected producers and providers of organic products from all over Slovenia, who presented their products and practices to the wider public.

Ljubljana's green hinterland

At the City of Ljubljana, we are aware of the importance of organic agriculture for a high-quality local food supply. As many as 36 organic farms operate in the green hinterland of Ljubljana, supplying the city with organically grown fruit and vegetables. We also encourage the development of agriculture and the preservation of the countryside in the City of Ljubljana by allocating significant funds to this area, as much as 453,000 EUR in 2025.

Organic farming day in the EU

The EU Organic Day was introduced in 2021 to reflect on the challenges and opportunities associated with organic farming and to raise public awareness of the benefits of switching to this form of food production – from reducing the carbon footprint to ensuring quality food.
