Film under the Stars again in the courtyard of the Ljubljana Castle
This summer in Ljubljana will also be marked by screenings of blockbusters in the courtyard of the Ljubljana Castle under starry skies. The Film under the Stars lifts the curtain on Thursday, 11 July 2024, with the film Autumn Leaves.
Then, every evening until 3 August 2024, 23 more films will follow, including resounding films from the previous cinema season, premieres and pre-premieres, as well as Slovenian films and Slovenian minority co-productions.
This year's pre-premieres and premieres
Already on Tuesday, 16 July, there will be a second pre-premiere. It will be the comic drama Tomorrow is Another Day, directed by Paola Cortellesi, inspired by Italian neorealism, which has won the hearts of audiences and even outsold Barbie in its home country of Italy!
Two days later, on Thursday, 18 July, we can see the pre-premiere of My Favourite Cake from this year's Berlinale Competition. This bittersweet Iranian romantic comedy, which had to be shot in secret, »celebrates women, life and freedom«, according to the director.
On Thursday, 25 July, at the Peugeot premiere, we'll watch The Second Act, the first film directed by artificial intelligence! Quentin Dupieux's absurdist comedy opened this year's Cannes Film Festival.
On the last July Tuesday, 30 July, the pre-premier of Sonja Prosenc's Family Therapy will follow. The Slovenian director's brand new feature film, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York at the beginning of June, explores contemporary social issues in a humorous, tragicomic reimagining of Pasolini's Theorem.
Closing of the film summer at the Castle
On Saturday, 3 August, to close this year's film gatherings at the Ljubljana Castle, there will be the pre-premiere screening of the film Kneecap by director Rich Peppiatt, which won the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival. In this cheeky, raucously funny biopic full of sex, drugs and music, the members of the rap group Kneecap play themselves and, in their own unique way, call for the protection of their mother tongue.
Films will be shown daily at 21:30. They will be screened in the original language with Slovenian subtitles; for films in languages other than English, the subtitles will also be in English. The ticket price is 6 €, and 7 € for pre-premieres and premieres.
Tickets are already available.
In case of rain or bad weather forecast, the screening is cancelled. The replacement screening will take place the next day at 21:00 in Kinodvor. In case of cancellation of the pre-premiere or premiere, there will be two alternative screenings in Kinodvor.
