Involving the public in the drafting of the new Integrated Transport Strategy

The City of Ljubljana is committed to the current Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS) with objectives set until 2027, adopted by the City Council of the City of Ljubljana in 2017.

We have been implementing measures throughout and striving to make improvements in the areas of promoting sustainable mobility, accessibility, traffic safety, revitalising public spaces, greening of the city, efficiency and modernisation of sectoral services, etc., both in the City of Ljubljana and in the Ljubljana Urban Region.
Although the current ITS of the City of Ljubljana is still in force, a new strategy has to be developed as stipulated in the Act on Integrated Transport Planning.

A creative approach with a street festival

We will again use different ways of involving the public in drafting the new Municipal Integrated Transport Strategy 20252032. In addition to the traditional methods of engaging the public, we will also use the most modern ones, so we will hold the first public debate on the streets, joining the lively events of the Ana Desetnica International Street Theatre Festival in the Park slovenske reformacije, on Trg prekomorskih brigad square in front of Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, in the park on the street Gorazdova ulica and at the final stop of the LPP buses 5 and 9 in the neighbourhood Štepanjsko naselje.

The drafters of the strategy will collect suggestions from pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users, car drivers, and all other road users directly from the event participants. For those who would like to discuss the challenges and necessary improvements in transport in more depth, we will organise a series of public debates already this autumn.

The drafting co-financed by the European Union

The City of Ljubljana was successful in the public call for proposals for co-financing municipal integrated transport strategies published by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy, which resulted in the approval of the maximum amount of 56,700 EUR for co-financing of the drafting of the municipal integrated transport strategy of the City of Ljubljana. This is European Cohesion Policy funding for the co-financing of the costs of the drafting process of the municipal integrated transport strategies, which is implemented as a non-infrastructural measure at horizontal level within the framework of the EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027, priority 5 "Sustainable (trans)regional mobility and connectivity", specific objective RSO 3.2 "Developing and enhancing sustainable, climate resilient, intelligent and intermodal national, regional and local mobility, including improved access to TEN-T and cross-border mobility".
