Join the National Month of Joint Reading

Ljubljana, a UNESCO City of Literature and a Reading Friendly Municipality, is once again joining the National Month of Joint Reading.

In 2015, Ljubljana received the permanent title UNESCO City of Literature, which brings together cities in which literature has a special role. In 2020, we also successfully extended the title of a Reading Friendly Municipality, which affirms the city's many efforts to promote reading.

In 2021, we will continue implementing the Ljubljana Reads project, in the framework of which we give three-year-olds, first-graders and fourth-graders high-quality original books, which are selected in a public tender.

The City of Ljubljana is also co-financing the program of the Vodnik Homestead Šiška, which is managed by the Wild Thought Institute programming-wise and where events aimed at various target groups take place throughout the year, which are also linking books to other art forms. We are also co-financing the program of the Slovenian Writers' Association, and we have also been supporting the Fabula literary festival for many years, within the framework of which renowned authors come to visit Ljubljana every year and readers can enjoy translations of their works.

In a public tender in 2021, we supported nine cultural projects that link books with the city's pulse and encourage reading and buying books.
