The city cinema Kinodvor concludes the celebration of three important anniversaries, which were marked in 2023: the centenary of the cinema on Kolodvorska, the twentieth anniversary of the art cinema and the fifteenth anniversary of the Public Institute Kinodvor. This symbolically important year for film culture in the city was marked with a series of events that raised awareness of the significance and role of the city cinema as an urban cultural, creative and social centre.

The celebration continued this year as well. Among other things, roughly every month they showed the work of one of the legendary directors, actors and film personalities who would have turned 100 years old this year. They will also end the celebration in this style, as they are preparing screenings for the centenary of director Sergei Parajanov and special events in October.

Exhibition – Kinodvor 100

At the conclusion of the celebration, they also prepared the Kinodvor 100 exhibition, which is on view in the Kinodvor gallery from 1 October 2024. The exhibition gives us an insight into the history of the cinema on Kolodvorska ulica, which came to life as »the most beautiful cinema in the Balkans«, and then changed dynamically during its century-long history of operation and adapted to changes in the cultural life of Ljubljana.

I carry all my favourites with me

Kinodvor ended 2023 with excellent results, and everything indicates that 2024 will also exceed all expectations. Visitors showed that coming to Kinodvor is their favourite way to spend their free time. Therefore, they decided to invite them to active co-creation. In collaboration with visual artist Olja Grubić, they will create portraits of their favourite filmmakers chosen by the audience and print them on T-shirts. Nominations are open until 10 October on Kinodvor's social networks, where followers can nominate their favourites. On 15 October, a special committee will choose the four winning proposals, four participants will also be drawn and will receive a T-shirt with a portrait.
