Kinodvor's summer with open-air cinema
On Wednesday, 12 June, the Kinodvor city cinema will start its summer of films, which will continue all the way up to 29 August 2024.
First, we will enjoy ourselves in the Kinodvorišče, the summer cinema in the atrium of the Slovenian Railways, then we will move to the Ljubljana Castle with the Film Under the Stars, and we will close the summer of open-air cinema with the traditional Open-Air Cinema on Congress Square.
The Kindovor's film summer starts on Wednesday, 12 June, with the premiere of Black Tea (2024), which is part of this year's Kino Otok – Isola Cinema in Ljubljana. The great poet of African cinema, Abderrahmane Sissako, returns with a melancholic romance set in the African quarter of China's third-largest city.
We'll be staying at the Kinodvorišče cinema with evening screenings all the way up to 6 July. Among other things, we will see the premiere of the intimate documentary portrait Joan Baez: I Am a Noise (2023), in which the legendary singer and activist talks unusually candidly about her life on and off the stage. The film, which will be screened on 18 June, is signed by directors Miri Navasky, Maeve O'Boyle and Karen O'Connor.
The open-air screenings will also include a selection of films from the regular programme, such as 20,000 Species of Bees (20,000 especies de abejas, 2023), the debut feature of Basque director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, and Selma Vilhunen's Finnish comedy-drama Four Little Adults (Neljä pientä aikuista, 2023), an unusual coming-of-age story that won the jury prize of the Art Cinema Network Slovenia at the last Liffe – Ljubljana International Film Festival.
Films will be screened every day at 21:30. The entrance to the atrium is through the Kinodvor Cinema Hall. In case of bad weather, the screening will take place at the same time in the Cinema Hall.
Once we pack up the screen at the Kinodvorišče, we will move to the Castle Courtyard with the Film Under the Stars, which we are organising in cooperation with the Ljubljana Castle. From 11 July to 3 August, we will be screening a selection of premieres, pre-premieres and some of the most acclaimed films of the cinema season for 24 consecutive nights at 21:30 at one of the most beautiful summer cinema venues. We will publish the schedule on 27 June, when ticket sales will also start.
We will close the open-air summer of films with the traditional Open-Air Cinema on Congress Square. From 26 to 29 August, four masterpieces of cinematic art will be screened admission-free every evening at 21:00, again this year dedicated to different film anniversaries.
