Ljubhospice House

On 14 February 2016, the Ljubhospice House opened its doors in Ljubljana, a hospice providing free-of-charge comprehensive palliative care to the seriously ill.

The Ljubhospice House is set up for patients with an advanced incurable disease at the end of their life when treatment is concluded but attentive alleviation of the symptoms of the disease is needed. On its mission it is using a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to relieve human suffering and is ensuring conditions for the development of hospice palliative care with consideration to the users’ needs.

At the opening the director of the Ljubhospice Dr Marjan Sedej emphasized that every user will be provided with the best conditions for improving the quality of life and sense of dignity.
The mission of the Ljubhospice House is to provide comprehensive services to people during their stay till their passing and to offer support in the grieving process. »In the house individuals will receive comprehensive supervision, not only with regard to their physical but also emotional, spiritual and social needs. Attention and assistance will be given to family members and friends both before and after the passing of our user,« said Sedej.

Ever since its beginning the Ljubhospice House project has enjoyed the support of Major Zoran Janković, who at the opening said that with the establishment of Ljubhospice Ljubljana has proved yet again it is a social, compassionate and solidary city where special attention is given to the most vulnerable groups. He added that the Ljubhospice House under the auspices of the Ljubljana Pharmacy will provide the dying and their families with a safe environment of high quality and professional care. He congratulated the director of Ljubljana Pharmacy Marjan Sadej and his colleagues for undertaking the project with great dedication and professionalism and setting high goals that he believes will be attained to the benefit of all care recipients.

Ljubhospice has already started accepting applications and considering the interest shown the house will soon be full. At the opening of the house, an agreement on the spiritual care was signed with four biggest religions and religious communities in Slovenia to provide spiritual services to the users of the Ljubhospice House.

As the Ljubhospice House is financed by donations, the society has an even greater responsibility to respect and support such a noble campaign of high importance for the culture of life in our society on its philanthropic mission. Therefore, their doors are also open to volunteers.
