Ljubljana Pharmacies Donated Life-saving Motorcycle

In the framework of the 2nd Health Festival the Ljubljana Pharmacies made a donation to the Ljubljana University Medical Centre emergency station – a fitted paramedic motorcycle Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer.

The donation was handed over to Andrej Fink, the Head of the Emergency Station, and Domen Vodopivec, motorcycle paramedic, by Matej Link, Ljubljana Pharmacies Director. Fink said: "With this donation we have come much closer to the realization of the set goal, that is, to be able to come closer to more sites of accidents that occur at the same time, whereby we will improve the provision of first aid and emergency medical services in the area of City of Ljubljana and wider."

The LUMC emergency station works 24/7 and provides its services to people in the area of City of Ljubljana and 14 neighbouring municipalities covering the total area of 1,552 km2. 380 thousand people inhabit this territory.

Provision of hospital emergency medical assistance with paramedics on motorcycles has been carried out since 2003, namely from 1 May to 1 November in the visible part of the day. Annually they perform 550 to 600 interventions.

Motorcycle paramedics are the ones who drive to the crash site in less than a minute thus improving chances of survival and reducing the risk of severe consequences of accidents and sustained injuries and trauma. Until now, 6 trained motorcycle paramedics had only two motorcycles at their disposal, therefore the third motorcycle is a major acquisition for this form of fast professional medical assistance.
