Ljubljana Reads

Within the framework of the project »Ljubljana reads« first- and fourth-graders in Ljubljana have received two original Slovenian picture books Modrost nilskih konjev and Čofli at the beginning of the school-year.

Since 2008 the City of Ljubljana has been reading with the programme »Ljubljana reads« which is systematically promoting the development of reading culture among children and supporting national artists. Each year the City of Ljubljana selects an original Slovenian picture book through a public tender which is given to three-year-olds at their health check at the paediatrician’s office, to first-graders on their first school-day as well as to fourth-graders. In this way we are promoting access to the best books and supporting top Slovenian authors.

This year at their health check three-year-olds are going to receive the colouring book Še sto ugank (Hundred More Riddles) written by Anja Štefan and illustrated by Jelka Reichman, on the first school-day the first-graders have received the book by Peter Svetina Modrost nilskih konjev (Wisdom of the hippopotamus) and the fourth-graders the book Čofli by Andrej Rozman Roza.
