For the tenth time already, Ljubljana has made it onto the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list, which highlights successful examples of sustainable and responsible tourism worldwide. Ljubljana is the only city in the world that has made it onto this prestigious list for the tenth time.

We have been once again ranked among the hundred best sustainable stories, this time thanks to the LUV Fest, which encourages visitors to come to Ljubljana in less tourist-heavy months, and by involving cultural institutions, local creators, shops, hospitality services, non-governmental organizations, young artists and citizens, it contributes to community building and preservation of cultural heritage.

The festival of love, art and rambling, held from 8 February to 12 March, brings together a rich cultural program, experiential tours of the city and exhibitions, workshops for all generations, as well as offers from hotels, restaurants and shops, all under the common theme of love. With it, Ljubljana Tourism provides varied activities for the locals, while also inviting foreign visitors to the city with attractive offers in a slower tourist season. The festival creates a space for new artistic projects and supports young creators. Every year, they put on light installation art exhibits in public spaces, enriching the city’s image and gaining more international exposure. The local community is also closely involved in the LUV Fest, as the program and offers are co-created by local artists, non-governmental organizations, shops, hospitality providers and also the residents. Their thoughts on the festival and suggestions are carefully considered by Ljubljana Tourism in the further development of the festival. All this gives the LUV Fest an authentic character and supports the local economy.

Every year, the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories opens a public competition to gather quality sustainability-oriented content and good practices of tourist destinations from around the world, which serve as an example to other destinations, tour operators and visitors. The ones that make the top hundred stand out in terms of efficiency and innovation and applicability to other destinations. The competition has been organized by the Green Destinations organization since 2014.

Commitment to sustainable tourism

With regular placement on the list of Green Destinations Top 100 Stories, Ljubljana Tourism and the City of Ljubljana continue to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development in all areas of operation. Ljubljana has been making it onto the list so far both due to its outstanding achievements in the sustainable development of tourism, recognised by its sustainability certification, as well as through innovative experiences and projects, among them are creative artisan workshops, the Digital Innovation of Plečnik's Heritage project, KulKul Moment, Culture Online and the Moustache Tour.
