On 8 July 2016, the Mayor Zoran Janković hosted the Mayor of Belgrade Dr Siniša Mali at the City Hall, and then they jointly unveiled the Vuk Stefanović Karadžić monument.

On the occasion, the Mayor of Belgrade signed the Golden Book of Ljubljana and then both mayors took part in the commemorative unveiling of the Vuk Stefanović Karadžić monument erected at the Serbian orthodox church.

The monument of the famous reformer of the Serbian literary language, the work of the artist Petar Ubavkić, was donated by the city of Belgrade and the Vuk Fund to Ljubljana to mark the friendship between Jernej Kopitar and Vuk Stefanović Karadžić who in cooperation developed the Slovenian and Serbian language at the beginning of the 19th century.
Mayor Zoran Janković stated he is proud of the cooperation between the cities as the erection of the Vuk Stefanović Karadžić monument is the first case of a capital city setting up a monument in Ljubljana. Among other examples, he pointed out the Happiness Bus as proof of friendship between Ljubljana and Belgrade even among our youngest, and added we want to further develop our good relations.
The Mayor of Belgrade Dr Siniša Mali thanked Ljubljana for its hospitality and stressed that with the erection of the monument Ljubljana has shown it wants to strengthen ties between the cities in the area of culture and that he is expecting the good intercity cooperation to continue.
