We invite you to participate in the Nature in Ljubljana at Night photo competition, which aims to show animals and plants in Ljubljana through photography and thus contribute to raising awareness of the richness of nature in our city. The competition is open to all nature and photography enthusiasts who can submit photographs until 20 August 2024.

The competition is divided into two categories: animals and plants. Entry is free of charge, and each photographer can submit four photographs taken in the City of Ljubljana in the past five years, capturing wild animals and plants.

Among the submitted photos, a jury of four experts will award the best photo in both the animal and plant categories. The prizes are a ZOO Ljubljana experience (a gift voucher for camping, a night tour of the ZOO and a photo safari) and a package of 24 tickets for the Kinodvor City Cinema. The prize-winning photos will also be published on all communication channels of the City of Ljubljana.

The winners will be announced and prizes awarded on 3 October 2024, when the best photographs of the competition, as selected by the jury, will be exhibited at the City Hall.

Terms of participation:

1. The competition is open to everyone except members of the jury and the organising committee.
2. Each participating author may submit four photographs taken in the City of Ljubljana at any time in the past five years.
3. The deadline for the submission of photographs is 20 August 2024.
4. Registration for the competition is free of charge.
5. There are two categories: animals and plants.
6. Photographs of domestic animals, pets and plants planted/sown by humans are inadmissible. Only photos of wild animals and plants will be accepted.
7. Photo post-processing rules – basic minor and imperceivable corrections (framing, contrast, sharpness, colour correction) are allowed. Creative use of photographic optics (e.g., zoom effect) is permitted. The jury will exclude over-processed photos from the competition!
8. Photographs taken with a phone or a camera are allowed.
9. Authors must submit their photos in .jpg format. The photograph must be sized to at least 4000 pixels on the long edge. Photos must be submitted using the form published here. Photos should be captioned with »author's name_surname, photo category«. When submitting a photograph, the following information must also be included on the entry form: name and surname of the photographer, email address, the title of the photograph, the category in which the photograph is entered, and the location where the photograph was taken (at least the local place name).
10. The jury evaluating the submitted photographs is composed of four members, and their decisions are final.
11. The jury will award two prizes: a prize for the best photograph in the animal category and a prize for the best photograph in the plant category.
12. The jury will award the prizes at the opening of the photography exhibition on 3 October 2024 in the City Hall, right atrium. The results of the competition will also be published on the website of the City of Ljubljana.
13. The best photographs selected by the jury will be presented at a photo exhibition on 3 October 2024 at the City Hall.
14. By participating in the »Nature in Ljubljana at Night« competition, the authors of the photographs agree to the terms and conditions of the competition and consent to and authorise the use of the photographs for the purposes of the competition and its promotion. This includes publication in the exhibition, on the organiser's website and social networks, and in articles related to the competition.
