New footbridge on the path of remembrance and comradeship

A new bridge spans the Pržanec stream on the most popular part of the Path between Koseze Lake (Koseški bajer) and Grbo.

The Path of Remembrance and Comradeship (PST) is a 32.5km trail around the Slovenian capital. It follows the route of the barbed wire that was used (between 1942 and 1945) by the occupying forces during the Second World War to enclose Ljubljana, and cut off contact between the city and its rural hinterland. Nowadays, the PST grants Ljubljana one of its most popular and most visited recreational venues in the city.

The new footbridge is 7.25m long and 2.5m wide and is more durable than its predecessor, as it is made of laminated larch wood. Its construction is designed to retain the appearance of the old in the form of a gallows, but has a more contemporary form. In its new design and construction techniques it is harmonious with the nearby footbridge over the Glinščica, which in May 2012 replaced the old bridge on this site that had been heavily damaged by floods and general wear-and-tear over the years. The new footbridge is also in keeping with the recently set-out island of sports along the stream, which has quickly become a favourite exercise spot for visitors to the Path. The island of sports has been set up along the PST, on the section from Brdo to Koseze Lake, by the first wooden bridge. It is intended for all recreational age groups, and contains six pieces of trim apparatus.

The implementation of the plan for the new footbridge across the Pržanec stream was carried out by Konstat Biro d.o.o., while construction was done under the project leadership of Miran Lamovšek by Lamo, which also installed the bridge. The new footbridge was donated by BTC d.d. The total cost of work amounted to €19,920.

The new footbridge is part of the ongoing renovation of the PST, which requires constant care and maintenance, as it is only with this that it can continue to serve the numerous residents for their daily walking and recreation in the countryside.
