New Image of Cankarjeva Street

As the Slovenska Street, the Cankarjeva Street is also under renovation that includes establishing larger surfaces for pedestrians and cyclists, as well. The momentary work on the Cankarjeva Street between Slovenska and Beethovnova Street are predicted to conclude in August.

With the renovation, we are reawakening the idea of a promenade between the Ljubljana Castle and the Tivoli Park, which once revived the area. The Cankarjeva Street is a historical and urban part of the promenade from the Robba Fountain to the Tivoli Park's Cekin Mansion. The street was in the past white – paved with white sand, which is taken into account as the starting point of redesigning its image.

The cycling surfaces will be shared with other road users while the pedestrians will be provided with priority surface between the Beethovnova and Slovenska. At the National Gallery will be a two-way traffic. The existing station of the Bicike(LJ) bicycle bikesharing system will be supplemented with new cycling stands.

The renovation of the Cankarjeva Street also includes the renovation of old communal infrastructure (water distribution system, sewerage).
