On 8 March, we celebrate female creators

On 8 March, Ljubljana, the UNESCO City of Literature, joined the initiative to establish the Women Writers Route. The Women Writers Route will direct attention to the women who marked the struggle for human and women's rights in the early 20th century.

In Ljubljana, we are focusing on presenting two influential authors – writer and publicist Zofka Kveder and poet Lili Novy. In doing so, we will work closely with the Wild Thought Institute, which is already successfully carrying out programs aimed at the popularization of female authors within the framework of Vodnik's Homestead. The initiative for the establishment of the Women Writers Route, which will also compete for the title Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, was introduced by the Forum of Slavic Cultures.

The aim of the European Cultural Route project, which has been running within the framework of the Council of Europe since 1987, is to show through space and time the importance of the heritage of different European countries, which contributes to a common and living cultural heritage. Currently, the project includes 38 cultural routes with very diverse themes, which are portraying the European memory, history and heritage and contributing to the interpretation of the diversity of contemporary Europe. In Ljubljana, we are included in two of them, namely, the European Cemeteries Route and the Art Nouveau European Route.
The Women Writers Route Association is supported by the countries participating in the Forum of Slavic Cultures, the most active among them are Russian cities, especially Moscow and St. Petersburg, Zagreb, Rijeka – European Capital of Culture 2020, Ogulin with the institution the Ivana's House of Fairy Tales and Belgrade.
