Over 15 thousand runners at the Ljubljana Marathon
On Sunday, 20 October 2024, Ljubljana will be marked by the NLB Ljubljana Marathon. As many as 15,267 male and female runners are registered, taking routes with distances of 10, 21 and 42 kilometres.
There are 6,148 runners registered for the Garmin 10 km run, 6,238 runners for the Generali ZAME half marathon and 2,881 runners will run for the longest distance of the Heineken 0.0 marathon. Among them are as many as 10,175 domestic runners, while the organizers achieved a new record of 5,092 registered runners from 86 different countries. Croatia, Serbia, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, France and Hungary are the most represented.
Barbara Železnik, Director of the NLB Ljubljana Marathon, pointed out: »In the organization, we devote a lot of time to understanding the habits and needs of runners. Accordingly, we are introducing improvements in both the execution and communication. I believe that these impressive numbers are, to a large extent, the result of our ability to listen to the runners.«
Younger people and women in focus
The fact that the marathon attracts many young male and female runners is also pleasing, namely, their average age is only 39 years. As much as 29% of those registered, or 4,472 runners, are up to and including 30 years old, which means almost 600 more young runners compared to last year. The youngest runner is 16 years old, and the oldest participant is 90 years old, which nicely illustrates the diversity of the participants of this sports holiday. The share of women is also an important figure, which rose by 1% compared to last year.
The NLB Ljubljana Marathon thus once again proves that it is an event that not only promotes the running culture but also brings together people of different generations, nationalities and lifestyles.
