Within the framework of the project Outside, with which we are supporting local initiatives of Ljubljana’s citizens, we are going to implement 15 ideas of our citizens this year.

We have received 57 initiatives, and a jury made up of members from the City of Ljubljana, the ProstoRož Association and IPoP – Institute for Spatial Policies chose 15 winning initiatives.

Winning initiatives

Residents of Vojkova ulica, Murgle and Opekarska ulica will erect new benches and do some planting. At the end of Šivičeva ulica neighbours will construct access to Ljubljanica, and at Brod a new adventure playground will come to life. An open-air cinema is coming back to Upper Šiška. Last year short Slovenian films shot in Upper Šiška attracted as many as 300 visitors despite the rain. This year films made by neighbourhood residents will be shown, and both proponents of the campaign and their friends will restore benches alongside Rašiška ulica. To promote socializing a new »idea hub« will be set up in front of the entrance of the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering by its students, and on Zarnikova and Gorkičeva ulica residents will renovate spaces they are already using for neighbourhood socialising.
This year we received many initiatives from the outskirts of Ljubljana – from Kleče, Kašelj, Podutik, Zadobrova, Besnica and Sneberje. A new bike park will come to life there, and in Besnica, with an upsurge of cyclists when movement was restricted to the municipality, they discovered they need a larger rest area. Within the framework of the project we will also renovate two basketball courts in Mostec and Vič.

With small interventions to big changes

Jury members noticed that this year many proponents of initiatives started discussing ideas with their neighbours even before the call, as almost all of them have strong local support. Many initiatives pertained to smaller green surfaces in neighbourhoods. Among other things they also noticed that residents started paying attention to small corners in their neighbourhoods.

Implementation by the end of September

The proponents of winning ideas have time until the end of September to carry out their activities. Each initiative will be assigned a mentor to help with advice and expert support, and will be awarded up to 800 € to buy materials. The work put into idea implementation is voluntary.

About the project Outside

With the project Outside we help make citizens’ ideas come true and we promote forming ties between residents in neighbourhoods. And above all, we want them to spend more time outside, in the open.
Outside is a project of the City of Ljubljana, created in cooperation with the ProstoRož Association and the Institute for Spatial Policies (IPoP). Activities are proposed and carried out by citizens of Ljubljana.
