Puppet Museum received a special award in Malta
At the Annual Conference of the Network of European Museum Organisations in Valletta, Malta, the Puppet Museum at the Ljubljana Castle received a special award of the jury.
The Children in Museums Award recognising innovation and excellence in bringing cultural heritage closer to children is presented by the European Museum Academy and the International Organisation of Children’s Museums.
This year they presented two awards, the main one went to Singapore to the department of art education at the National Gallery, while the jury gave a special award to Ljubljana Puppet Museum.
The short list for the award contained 12 museums from Australia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Great Britain, Slovenia and Singapore.
The Puppet Museum was established in 2015 and it is operating under the umbrella of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and the Ljubljana Castle. It is a multi-layered project which in addition to the exhibition of Slovenian puppets at the Ljubljana Castle introduced systematic preservation of the Slovenian puppet heritage.
We financed the establishment of the museum with the support of the European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry for Culture, and we are also co-financing its operation.
