‘Summer in a basement’

Between 5 July and 15 August ‘Summer in a basement’, the first international start-up summer camp, is to run at Hekovnik at LTP, where the bearers of the best business ideas in the fields of mobile applications, the Internet and hardware meet the challenges of implementing business ideas.

Camp participants, in partnership with the leading Slovenian ICT companies and with the support of experienced mentors, will take steps towards global success and simultaneously actively enjoy the summer holidays in the creation of new technologies.

The‘Summer in a basement’ summer camp takes place at Hekovnik at Ljubljana Technology Park (LTP) between 5 July and 15 August 2010. It is intended for students and individuals from Slovenia and Southeastern Europe who would like to spend the summer holidays actively and ultimately bring a technological business idea to life. The well-known mentors, experts in the fields of IT and entrepreneurship, will guide the teams and offer them professional support in the realisation of their projects.

Upon the conclusion of more than a month of intensive work on the development of business ideas, the participants will present their business ideas and technological solutions to investors and project partners. On the basis of the presentations, which take place on 15 August, the organisers will also select the best project or business idea. The carrier of the best project will be rewarded with counselling in the setting up of a business and a visit to Silicon Valley as part of the 'Brezmejnik' (Boundbreaker) project, led by business accelerator Simgularis (a full member of Ljubljana Technology Park) in partnership with Ljubljana Technology Park and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana.

More about Hekovnik

Hekovnik TP/1 is a creative environment, where hackers – people interested in new high technologies – get together and create emerging technologies. It is conceived as a working space where all are equal and free to do and create whatever they want. The concept of such an environment is better known around the world under the term "hackerspace" which operates on the principle of an open community where everyone starts or is included in a project from which a business may also later arise. In line with the interests and vision of members, Hekovnik TP/1 generally focuses on certain areas and strives to build laboratories for programming hardware and neuroscience.

Besides students/individuals and the surrounding faculties - the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics – the Hekovnik community also co-shapes experienced businesspeople and specialists from the high technology fields, who offer to young people support and knowledge in entrepreneurship, finance as well as public speaking skills and project presentation. The project is carried out by the Hekovnik Institute, of which the founders were Ljubljana Technology Park and Simgularis, d.o.o., (a full member of Ljubljana Technology Park).
