Tatjana Polajnar in the Hall of Slovenian Sports Heroes

Former top handball player and at present the Director of the public institute Sport Ljubljana, Tatjana Polajnar, was accepted into the Hall of Slovenian Sports Heroes on Sunday, 10 November 2024.

Tatjana Polajnar has played a key role in Slovenian handball. With her dedication and hard work, she helped both the Krim handball club and the Slovenian national team reach the very top of European handball, for which she also earned a place among the most legendary Slovenian athletes of all time.

Tatjana Polajnar began her sports career with the teams Alples from Železniki and Belinka Olimpija, and in 1988 she moved to the Radnički team in Belgrade, with which she won the national championship title and twice the European Cup Winners' Cup. She played 62 matches for the Yugoslav national team and scored 126 goals. In 1990, the national team received the world vice-champion title in South Korea, and a year later won at the Mediterranean Games in Athens. Tatjana joined the Krim team in 1992, where she was a three-time national champion (1995, 1996, 1997), and at the end of her rich career, she was also the Italian national champion with the Rimini team in 1998. At the Mediterranean Games in Bari in 1997, she received a bronze medal as captain of the Slovenian national team. She played 38 matches for the Slovenian national team and scored 113 goals.

The Slovenian Sports Journalists Association accepts top athletes into the Hall of Slovenian Sports Heroes.
