Time Machine at Ljubljana Castle

6 time stops, 6 costumed characters and a castle guide – more than just a visit to the Ljubljana Castle.
The “Time Machine” takes visitors on a guided tour through six most important periods in the history of the Ljubljana Castle and the development of our city. At each "time stop" you will be welcomed by one character who will introduce a particular period.

After you are welcomed by a Roman soldier or a priestess at the spot where once supposedly stood a lookout tower in the Roman Emona, you are escorted to the castle entrance. Here you meet the brave knight George (Jurij) who slayed a dragon in the early middle ages and saved Ljubljana from a horrible menace. If George is away, his wife Daisy (Marjetica) will step up for the job. Who is the person who was most important for the mighty fortress on top of the hill in the early Middle Ages? You get your answer in the courtyard where you meet the emperor himself – Frederick III of Habsburg or his wife Eleanor Helena of Portugal. The period of Illyrian Provinces is best described by a soldier from Napoleon’s army or a nurse-nun that await you in front of the Pentagonal tower. The 19th century is a dark era in the history of the Ljubljana castle, and for this reason you continue your tour to the penitentiary to meet a "karbonar" or a regular prisoner to speak about the menu in the castle prison. At the end of your tour you are greeted by the man who is credited for keeping the castle under the city's management – Ivan Hribar, Mayor, who bought the castle in 1905 from the government of the time. If he is too busy, you will be greeted by his daughter Goldie (Zlatica).

The castle changed through the centuries, it played different roles, but it remained the symbol of the city. What were the roles of the Castle Hill and the Ljubljana Castle in the rich castle history? Find out during an hour on a more than your usual guided tour. The costumed characters from the mentioned periods of history will recreate a special atmosphere of education and fun. The castle "time machine" awaits you!
