In honour of the long-time President of the Union of Associations of War Veterans and Participants in the National Liberation Struggle of Slovenia, partisan and Honorary Citizen of Ljubljana Janez Stanovnik his bust was unveiled in the Valvasor Park near the Tomb of National Heroes.

The unveiling of the bust of the father of the Slovenian nation was held on his birthday, 4 August. The bust was made by academic sculptor Metod Frlic. The monument was erected in the Valvasor Park at the Tomb of National Heroes next to the monument of Dr. France Bučar and Stane Kavčič.

Janez Stanovnik received the title Honorary Citizen of Ljubljana in 2010.
