21st Ljubljana Marathon
On 29 and 30 October, the Volkswagen 21st Ljubljana Marathon was held in Ljubljana, the biggest annual international sports event in the city. A record number of runners signed up for this year’s marathon, that is, over 28,000.

People Living in the City Give it its Pulse
Within the framework of this year’s European Mobility Week, a promotional campaign supporting cycling took place in Ljubljana in cooperation with Heineken with which cyclist so-designed the city and contributed over 20,000 km to improve the cycling infrastructure.

From 19 until 21 October 2016, the EUROCITIES Environment Forum was held in Ljubljana, attended by some 115 experts in the field of water, waste, energy efficiency, climate change, biodiversity, green surfaces and air quality.

Golden Pencil
The Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia presented the projects Rakova Jelša City Park and the Renovation of Slovenska Street with the Golden Pencil Award for their excellent execution. Deputy Major Prof Janez Koželj was also recognised.

International White Cane Day
On 15 October we mark the International White Cane Day as the main orientation aid used by the blind and the visually impaired. It is estimated that eight to ten thousand people in Slovenia have profound visual impairments, and as many as 30 to 40 thousand people have serious impairments.

For the fourth consecutive year the Ljubljana Castle has registered one million visitors. The passage counters recorded this year’s millionth visitor on the morning of 12 October.

Circular Cities Network
On the invitation of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Ljubljana joined the Circular Cities Network aimed at the exchange of good practices through a special web platform which can serve the cities as an inspiration for innovation in the field of the »zero waste« and circular economy.
