Aljaževa ulica is the tree-lined street of the year 2023
In Ljubljana, we always pay special attention to trees, as we are aware of their immense importance for the quality of life in the city. As part of these activities, we have already selected four trees of the year, and this year, we expanded the campaign and selected the tree-lined street of the year.
On 22 April 2024, World Earth Day, we declared the tree-lined street of the year 2023 in Ljubljana. The citizens decided this flattering title would be given to Aljaževa ulica, a street lined with Japanese cherries.
Citizens nominated 20 tree-lined streets, from which an expert jury selected seven finalists, among which the citizens chose Aljaževa ulica lined with Japanese cherries in Šiška for the tree-lined street of the year. It received 366 votes, which is 28% of all votes.

Our efforts in the area of caring for trees are also recognised by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which have awarded Ljubljana the title Tree City for the fifth consecutive year as part of the Tree Cities of the World program (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023). Ljubljana is thus part of an important global network that paves the way in the field of care for urban forests and urban trees. In the City of Ljubljana, we are proud to have been recognised for the fifth time for our activities and measures, ensuring that the European Green Capital 2016 and the European Best Green Capital (2021) is literally green.
